Frequently Asked Questions
What is this event?
Welcome to the Borland Pickleball Classic! This is our second annual pickleball tournament fundraiser to support the good work of Borland Free Clinic, a nonprofit operating near the pickleball courts on the lower level of Rolling Hills Community Church which offers needed medical care to uninsured and underserved members of our community. Explore this page for more information, and please check back as we will update this page if anything changes.
Who is hosting this event?
The tournament is run by Borland Free Clinic, in partnership with Rolling Hills Pickleball Club. Please direct your questions to the clinic, info@borlandclinic.org. We are immensely appreciative of the support of the leadership of Rolling Hills Community Church and the Rolling Hills Pickleball Club for allowing us the time and space to do this event.
When and where is the event, and is there a deadline for registration?
This year’s tournament will take place Friday-Sunday, February 27-March 1, 2026, in the lower level pickleball courts of Rolling Hills Community Church, 3550 SW Borland Rd., Tualatin, OR 97062. We ask participants to register by the end of day Sunday, December 28. However, please know that divisions can fill up prior to that date.
How will the tournament be run?
This year we are excited to offer four skill levels (3.0-3.25, 3.5-3.75, 4.0, and 4.25+). With the exception of Mens 3.0-3.25, we are aiming to have three divisions for each skill level (Men, Women, Mixed), so 11 divisions in total. Based on past enrollment, and to fit our three-day schedule, our goal is the following number of teams per division:
3.0-3.25 Women & 3.5-3.75 Women - 4 teams per division
All other divisions - 8 teams per division
However, registration will be monitored and the number of available teams per division can expand or contract, or be cancelled altogether, depending on interest.
Over the course of each division's roughly 3-3.5 hour playing window, every team will be guaranteed a certain number of matches (about 20 minutes per match) during pool play. Immediately following pool play, the top 4 teams will advance to an elimination tournament featuring two semifinal matches, a consolation final, and a championship final.
Will there be a waitlist?
Yes, if you do not see your division in registration, it is likely because that division has reached its team limit. To be placed on a waitlist in case additional slots open up, you can email info@borlandclinic.org. However, we cannot guarantee a registration spot.
Where do I register for this event?
A link will be provided for registration starting Dec. 15.
Can I see the schedule and participants?
The tournament will run all day Friday, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon and evening (to accommodate church on Sunday morning). We have a provisional schedule in place, which we have created in light of a host of considerations. You can view it by navigating back to the tournament main page. However, please know that we may adjust the schedule depending on how registration goes.
Also on the tournament page you can find links to view the other participants in your division. We will update these as often as possible, but a final list should not be expected until registration closes and/or the schedule is finalized.
What if I register and then the schedule for my division changes and I can no longer make it?
No worries. We will issue you a refund if you can no longer make it due to a schedule change.
What if I have to back out at the last minute, can I receive a refund?
Once the schedule is finalized, we will release a date to let us know if you can no longer make your scheduled time. After that date, no refunds will be issued.
What is the cost of this event and can I register for more than one team?
The initial cost for each participant is $50. Players may participate in up to two teams (e.g., men/women + mixed within one's same skill level), in which case the cost per participant is $75. For both, there is an added $15 charge if you would like a Borland Pickleball Classic branded t-shirt. All prices are listed on the registration page (available starting Dec. 15).
Should I know who my playing partner is before I register?
Yes, please arrange your teammate prior to registration, at which point each participant will need to register separately. If you would like to participate but do not know who to partner with, you can email info@borlandclinic.org. We will try to keep a list of interested players in the hopes of pairing you, but we cannot guarantee a registration spot.
What skill level should I sign up at, and what if my partner plays at a different level than I do?
It is necessary that you know your skill level prior to registering, and that you register at your actual skill level. We will reach out if we see or hear of any issues or discrepancies.
If in the unlikely event you and your partner play at different skill levels, we ask that you register at the higher level between you. For example, if one of you plays at 3.5-3.75 and the other at 4.0, please register at the 4.0 level.
Are you following any standard rules for this tournament?
Yes, we will follow the published rules set forth by USA Pickleball. In addition, we prohibit the use of paddles that will are no longer sanctioned by USA Pickleball effective July 1, 2025. These include Joola Mod TA-15, Gearbox Pro Power Elongated, and ProKennex Black Ace. You can read more about this here. The ball for the tournament will be the Franklin X-40.
Can I volunteer at this event?
Yes! We are looking for volunteers to help throughout the tournament. Please consider volunteering for a session in which you will not be playing. When you register, you can indicate your interest and we will get in touch with you. If you do not plan on playing but are still interested in volunteering, please email us at info@borlandclinic.org.
Can I help support in other ways?
Yes! We are also looking for tournament sponsors and raffle prize donations. Please contact us at info@borlandclinic.org if you are interested or would like more information. Again, this is a fundraiser, so you are also welcome to donate to the clinic directly at borlandclinic.org. We appreciate your support!
